Coin counting and sorting can be a very tedious task, it takes a lot of time and it can be dirty work, there is a lot of grime on those quarters behind the sofa pillows. Implemented in the late nineteen twenties initially in banks, coin sorter machines have aided humankind in dealing with a lot of change, they not only sort but they also count, at least the later models do which further aids us in our day-to-day coin sorting lives.

Counting And Sorting A Bunch Of Coins

There are different  models and sizes suited to fit the needs of the consumer. The bigger, industrial size coin sorters being used in banks and establishments that have to count coins at the end of the day, those are a lot more expensive and are heavy duty machines that can count hundreds of coins at a time and have several slots for the different coin sizes. The smaller coin sorters however have different programs and can work virtually hands free.  Meaning, that man power does not need to be diverted in order to operate them, aside from filling it with more coins and emptying the already sorted ones.  These coin sorters would be ideal for the average family use.

If you are a private citizen and you want a machine like that, you are more than free to purchase one, this could not be said from the forties to the early sixties when access to such machines was quite restricted due to laws implemented after a large amount of counterfeit coins were found in Chicago.  If the bigger ones are not the ones you are looking for, there are smaller, more convenient machines that are suitable for a household with a lot of loose change around the house.

A pile of coins that need to be counted and sorted.

There are smaller models that can easily hold up to three hundred coins in one load, however, they are less complex than the industry run ones, and they require more supervision. Even though the motors are fast, counting up to 100 coins per minute, and they sort relatively quick keep in mind that they, like any other utility in your home, need some rest. A suggested run time should not surpass more than two hours or you run the risk of totaling the motor on your coin sorter.

Choose the best coin sorter machine by basing it on your actually needs. There are machines that fit small to medium businesses, like your average corner shop or a small mom and pop run chain stores around the town. These models will run you between $100 - $200.  They have a medium magazine and can fit up to around 700 coins at a time. They have a faster sorting speed and they can also count your coins to give you the exact dollar amount.  Like most products in this world, the larger and more complex, the more it will usually cost.

We're sure if you are an avid coin collector that you are familiar with CoinStar or like products. You can find these in your local Wal-Marts and grocery stores and basically they are coin sorter machines that will count your coins to an exact dollar amount, charge you a fee, and print you a receipt of how much your coins were worth.  You then bring the receipt to a cashier to receive the money back in paper dollar value.  Although these are hands down the best coin sorter machines, they charge you an average of 8.9% of your coins.  Roughly, for every hundred dollars counted in coins, you give their company $8.90.

In conclusion, the CoinStar option is very convenient but at an 8.9% fee, it can in fact add up pretty quickly when you ALSO account for the gas being spent to drive to and from the CoinStar plus the 8.9% fee.

By
purchasing your own coin sorter machine, regardless of its size and model, you will save money over time by not relying on the public services of your local banks or businesses.  It will be more of an upfront cost, but it is a small investment for years of usage.

Based on the sorting and cointing speed, size of the coin hopper, accuracy, and customer reviews, below are the All Top 3 Best Coin Sorter Machines of 2016.

The Cassida C200.
#1 on our list for the Best Coin Sorter machine of 2016.

This machine right here is your all-in-one coin counter and sorter.  You simply load the hopper with all your coins (500 coins max at a single time), press start, and go about your business.  When you come back, your coins will be sorted, counted, and wrapped in its appropriate containers.

This coin counter also has a easy to read LED screen that will show you the number of coins, the amount of those coins in dollars and it does this per denomination.  Pretty neat, eh?  Another great feature about this machine is that it is relatively quiet when in operation and it counts a cool 300 coins per minute.  Hands down, we believe this is the best coin counter and sorter on the market.

The Cassida C100
#2 on our list for the Best Coin Sorter machine of 2016.

This model is often compared to the Cassida C200.  There are a couple differences, for one, it is $50 less than the C200 but rightfully priced because it does not offer the coin wrapping portion which to some business and home owners, is a vital option.  This machine specializes in counting the amount of coins along with counting up the dollar amount per denomination. Once all is counted, it separates the coins by their denomination into little hoppers where you can then readily and easily put them into wrappers.

A great feature this machine has is that it contains a rough estimate of an 1,100 coin hopper (more or less).  This is perfect when you need to dump a heap of coins in for counting and not have to sit around and keep adding coins little by little.  This device will also alert you when a certain denomination is full so you can pull that small container out, wrap your coins, and continue the counting process.

The Royal Sovereign Sort 'N Save
#3 on our list for the Best Coin Sorter machine of 2016.

For a fraction of the price, here you can get a quality coin counter and sorter machine.  The main reason why you will pay $23 compared to $150 is because the entire operation is done manually, not electronically.  But please, do not be discouraged.  This machine takes away the tiresome aspect of physically separating the coins one by one.  The process goes like this:

  1. Put the coins in the hopper
  2. Turn the crank with your hands (very easy)
  3. And the machine will accurately separate all denominations of coins into their appropriate wrappers.

The only downside is that you cannot load the hopper and walk away. You have to be there physically at all times to run the machine and wrap your coins.  But one can say that it is a small price to pay because you are indeed saving a lot of coins on choosing this product over the more expensive ones.  And saving coins is exactly why you are here today, right?
